"Home of the World's Largest Pecan"

Guadalupe County, located in South Central Texas, was created and organized from Bexar and Gonzales Counties in 1846 and named after the Guadalupe River. With a population of approximately 68,426, Guadalupe County spans 716 square miles and consists of 458,240 acres.

The Congress of the Republic of Texas passed an act on January 29, 1842 creating Guadalupe County with Seguin as it's county seat. County government was not actually organized until after Texas joined the United States in 1845. The Courthouse was built in April, 1847, until then commissioners held their meetings under live oak trees or in private homes. In 1858, Seguin's population totaled 792 which made it the 15th largest city in Texas.

Guadalupe County has a history of strong economic ties with the agriculture industry. Amidst this history, there has existed many changes that have taken place over time. And, just as Winston Churchill said, "Take change by the hand before it takes you by the throat," Guadalupe County has taken these changes in stride.
