Kinney County, 906,439 acres in size, is located below the bend of the Rio Grande River of which the river borders the southern end of the county of 18 miles. Brackettville, the county seat, is located about 130 miles west of San Antonio and 32 miles east of Del Rio. |
Approximately 855,000 acres are in rangeland. Ranchers are involved in combination type livestock enterprises, most running sheep, goats and cattle together. Estimated cash receipts from sheep in 2001 were $2,305,800, Angora and all other goats $1,120,000 and cattle $1,380,000. At last count, inventories of cattle in Kinney County were estimated at 2,280: sheep at 37,120 and all goats at 38,260 head. |
