Expanded Nutrition Program in Texas
What is ENP?
ENP is a federally funded program that has been providing nutrition education to limited-resource youth and families with children since 1968.
What exactly can ENP do for you and your clients?
Clients who participate in ENP will learn about food and nutrition in a supportive and fun environment. ENP lessons focus on basic nutrition, managing a food budget, food safety, and food preparation. Both adult and youth clients experience positive lifestyle changes, as well. Women returning to work can learn to prepare quick and easy, yet still nutritious, meals to ease their family's adjustment. Youth are proud of the skills they learn, and ENP's positive, productive activities may reduce the chance of risky behavior. Plus, these young people can now help with preparing the family's meals, sharing the workload as well as enjoying quality family time.
The ENP experience will provide other value-added benefits, such as self-confidence, motivation, and self-sufficiency. Clients who participate in our activities grow more cohesive as a group and help to support and motivate each other.
How does ENP help clients succeed?
ENP group classes are taught at WIC clinics, neighborhood centers, hospitals, child care centers, shelters, churches, schools, and other sites convenient for the participants. Individual instruction in the home or by correspondence can also be arranged.
Who can participate in ENP?
ENP serves adult and youth clients with limited resources. Adult clients are people responsible for the care of children in their homes. Youth clients are generally 6 to 14 years old and participate in ENP through curriculum-enrichment, after-school, or day camp activities.
How much does it cost?
There is no charge to clients for ENP instruction.
