HOME \| HISTORY \| CALENDAR \| ATHENS SUMMER JUBILEE \| YEARLING PROJECT \| SCHOLARSHIPS EQUINE ARTICLES \| LINKS \| EXTENSION Rules for the Yearling Project In an effort to further promote the future horse industry in our area, the Henderson County Horse Committee has established a yearling filly – gelding program for the participation of our 4-H and FFA members. Within this program exhibitors select, validate, and prepare a weanling filly or gelding registered in a breed registry. These projects are then shown at halter as a yearling at the Henderson County Livestock Show the following spring. Additionally, there are added prize incentives for individuals whose winning yearlings are bred and foaled in Henderson County by local horse breeders. Our young exhibitors have worked diligently with these projects over the past year attending clinics, learning how to raise, fit and show their yearlings prospects for their big show day, the last Tuesday of March. The top individuals of these classes will sell a banner at the livestock auction held on the Saturday following the competition along with other market champions also selected during the show week. It is at this time that we would like to cordially invite you to come and support our youth by bidding on and purchasing their projects at this auction which will be held on the last Saturday, of March, at the Henderson County Fair Park Complex. The success of this program lies solely on how well the banners sell at this auction. We are depending on the area horsemen and horse breeders who care about the future of our youth and our horse industry.
