Better Living for Texans

The Better Living for Texans (BLT) Family Nutrition Program provides education to assist families and individuals gain the knowledge and skills needed to prepare healthy meals while stretching food dollars. Current food assistance participants, individuals eligible for food assistance and other families with a limited income will be provided nutrition education and guidance in the areas of food and nutrition, food safety, and food resource management.

The BLT program is designed to teach individuals and families, young and old, how to have nutritionally sound diets and improve overall health and well-being.

In Coryell County, the following programs are offered. If you do not see anything you like, contact us and a specially designed program can be constructed to accommodate your needs.

Eating Right is Basic: this curriculum includes information on food, equipment, understanding food labels, the Food Guide Pyramid, menu planning, making the most of your food buying dollar, feeding you new baby, feeding infants and children, and eating right and light.

Puente de Salud – Bridge to Health: twelve bilingual/bicultural lessons combining nutrition and fitness.

Stretching your Food Dollars: includes lessons on putting nutrition knowledge to work, planning menus and preparing food stretching food dollars, keeping food safe, and preparing baby food at home.

Special Children's Programs: special programs can be designed to reach children of all ages. These programs will center around the Food Guide Pyramid and include hands-on activities.

Other Special Programs: BLT can offer adult classes in the follwoing: diabetic diets, weight management, cutting cholesterol and fat in the diet, living with a low sodium diet, and any others that are needed!
